Remembering Leocadio Dominguez: A Tribute to a Visionary Leader

On October 18, 2023, we celebrated the birth anniversary of Mr. Leocadio “Cady” J. Dominguez, the beloved founder of John Clements Consultants, Inc. (JCCI). This commemoration served as a tribute, acknowledging his lasting influence within the company and the significant impact he made on the lives of Filipinos by creating job opportunities and providing leadership training.

The celebration commenced with a Holy Mass on the Feast of Saint Luke, the Evangelist, setting a tone of profound appreciation. Before a delightful dinner, a select few, myself included, shared heartfelt reminiscences of unforgettable moments from his life.

Among my vivid memories of the eight months working under Mr. Dominguez, one stands out distinctly. He mentioned it was the company’s first time hiring from a prestigious auditing firm, like Sycip Gorres Velayo & Co. (SGV & Co.), where he gained invaluable early career experience. His demeanor combined toughness with genuine care.

An incident remains particularly memorable, occurring just a month after my arrival. Mr. Dominguez tasked me with analyzing the per-unit cost of a specific activity. To my surprise, upon submission, he shared his own meticulously handwritten analysis and computations, spread across five pages of a yellow pad. Despite our differing approaches, our conclusions aligned. I pondered if this was his way of entrusting responsibilities to individuals in their roles.

He also expressed interest in inviting me to join golf activities on multiple occasions. This opportunity eventually materialized through company-led events organized by his daughter, Ms. Carol Dominguez. My time with Mr. Dominguez was a period of immeasurable growth—a lesson in being firm yet compassionate, seeking guidance with a paternal perspective, and more—that profoundly influenced my personal and professional development.

During the celebration, others emphasized Mr. Dominguez’s enduring legacy, portraying his affectionate nature. Some highlighted his groundbreaking contributions in the human capital business, not only in securing domestic jobs for Filipinos but also in facilitating international placements through JCCI and its wholly-owned subsidiary, EDI Staffbuilders International, Inc.

Undoubtedly, Mr. Dominguez’s legacy lives on through the company he established, contributing to nation-building by offering leadership opportunities and empowering Filipinos to achieve better lives through meaningful employment.
