JCCI January Sales Conference: The Truth About Pad Thai

January 28, 2023 saw a quick tour of Thailand take place on the 14th Floor of Ayala Avenue’s LKG Tower. CEO Carol Dominguez had just returned from the South East Asian country that’s approximately 3 hours away by plane. Ever fond of sharing souvenirs and mementos from her work trips, she had the JCCI Van Gogh Room decorated with Thai motifs.

Miniature flags of Thailand were placed along the area. Fabrics from the country draped over the walls like theatre curtains. Plates of fruit candies were in easy reach of everyone present. A large punch bowl of Thai Milk Tea had been brewed and chilled, ready to be ladled into the cups of eager attendees. As various employees settled in with their snacks, the main presentation of the sales conference began.

Rather than bring in a guest speaker for this weekend gathering, the sales team that had come along with President Dominguez spoke for themselves as they delighted their coworkers with photos and videos from their recent tour in Bangkok. There were, of course, the major tourist attractions such as the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple. The group also voyaged across the three-part rivers of Bangkok, mostly the Chao Phraya River section. They then went into detail about encounters they had that you wouldn’t normally find on a post card like hunting for bargains at the Platinum Fashion Mall, Bangkok’s answer to the Manila’s own Divisoria Market, or joining their cab drivers in short Buddhist prayers for safe travels across the city.

Speaking of safe travels, the sales team took a moment to talk about how they felt a strong sense of public safety as they walked the streets of Thailand during their tours despite not being locals themselves. Though they had chiefly lived under democracies their whole lives, the JCCI team couldn’t help but be intrigued with Thailand’s monarchy. This modern royalty system of governance appeared to foster a strong sense of national pride and identity thanks to the central figure of King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

After their presentation concluded, the audience received a special treat: A Pad Thai Meal for each of them with a buffet of toppings to choose from. This came hot on the heels of the culture shock reveal by the presenters that the people of Thailand regard the sweet and savory noodle dish as a quaint staple, almost a peasant’s dish. Nonetheless, the recruiters, marketers, and sales force of JCCI dug in their complimentary lunch, as undeterred as the winning sales team had been when they learned of this viewpoint.

When the staff had polished off their plates, the top performers for the last month were called upon and rewarded for their excellence. The winners of the various categories are as follows:

Ryan Kyle Rodriguez – SBA
