From the Desk of a Veteran in Recruitment

Recruitment means scouting for great talents, discovering potentials, and assessing skills and attributes of candidates. And I take pride in being really good at these things.

I have been in the recruitment industry for many years now and I can proudly say that my career as a recruitment specialist has brought out the best in me. Over the years, I have always been on my toes, scouting for great talents, discovering potentials, and assessing skills and attributes of candidates. And I take pride in becoming really good at these things.

A long time ago, a client of mine told me that I was foremost a recruiter and second only as a salesperson. Up to this day, it still holds true. Recruitment has become my long-time career, my bread and butter, but more importantly, it has become that one thing I am most passionate about.

For many years, my task has been to find the right match for every job assignment. And I have learned to find meaning in being able to connect talents with the right company and matching professionals to the best position for them. While the job entails many challenges that test my resourcefulness and networking skills, my passion for finding the right people for certain positions remained my driving force. In many cases, I have to be extra diligent in research even if it feels like finding a needle in a haystack.

I firmly believe that recruitment is a career with a noble purpose. Over the course of my career, I have guided many promising talents towards a fulfilling career path that matches their interests and passion. And it is such a humbling experience to be able to help transform their lives by leading them to a career that best suits them. At the same time, I have helped drive growth to companies by providing them with the most competent people especially for leadership roles. And when companies grow, their people likewise grow. You see there is genuine fulfillment in being a recruitment and talent acquisition specialist. And I am lucky that I am one.

However, being great at one thing also involves a never-ending quest for development and continuous learning. With the new technologies available in the market, my role has changed a bit as I try to find new tools to supercharge JC’s recruitment. I am not a tech-savvy person, but because I love what I do, I must adapt to the new demands of the market and many industry trends. I must attend a lot of programs, understand basic IT concepts, and ask so many questions to grasp the meaning of certain buzzwords. It may seem like a difficult job, but frankly, it has been a satisfying journey. I was able to help improve and streamline our business process and open new opportunities for growth for the organization.

At this point, I don’t see myself trading my 3 decades of recruitment experience with anything else. I will always remain a recruiter by heart. It has become a challenging job and I must constantly evolve to be at the top of my game. This profession suits me well since I always seek for ways to improve my craft. Just a fun fact: early in my career, I would always apply time and motion studies on how I could improve the delivery of my work at a certain period. I looked at recruitment as a supply chain and had been particularly engrossed with data analytics. Looking back, it was a tough journey but well worth an experience.

Do I see myself still in recruitment in the next few years? Definitely! Recruitment is an exciting career to have, and it is something I have grown to be extremely passionate about. I will always be grateful to my company for providing me the experience that shaped me into who I am today as a recruitment professional. And I am looking forward to more years in this profession, providing JC with competent and outstanding service like no other.
