  • Embracing the Potential of AI in HR: A Reaction to Dr. Mohanbir Sawhney’s Workshop on Artificial Intelligence

The recent workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) led by Dr. Mohanbir Sawhney of Northwestern University and Kellogg School of Management, in partnership with GMA Network and John Clements Consultants Inc., held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Ayala, Makati on July 17, 2023, left the audience in awe of the potential of AI as an enabler rather than something to be feared.  The workshop provided a fresh perspective on AI as a powerful enabler, dispelling fears that often surround this transformative technology. Rather than replacing human intelligence, AI, in all its forms, serves as a tool to enhance human capabilities and drive productivity to new heights.

AI, a branch of computer science, aims to create machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. However, the key takeaway from the discussion was that AI can significantly enhance productivity and decision-making when harnessed effectively.  Despite the fact that AI has been taught in schools for over 50 years, its adoption in the business world has been recently accelerated, sweeping through industries and reshaping how businesses operate. Embracing AI appears to be a key factor in driving progress and success, while those who fail to incorporate it into their operations will risk being left behind and becoming obsolete in the very near future.

Generative AI

Dr. Sawhney’s workshop provided valuable insights into the future trends and applications of AI, with a particular focus on #Generative AI, a subset of AI. #Generative AI is an AI algorithm trained in vast data sets to generate new, previously unseen data. This technology has made significant strides and continues to evolve rapidly, revolutionizing various sectors like entertainment, design, and content creation.

The potential applications of Generative AI in Human Resources (HR) are especially intriguing. HR professionals can leverage Generative AI to streamline and optimize the recruitment process. By analyzing large datasets, these algorithms can identify suitable candidates more efficiently, saving both time and resources. To fully harness the power of HR algorithms, HR professionals must stay updated on the latest advancements and undergo specialized training. This ensures they can effectively utilize these algorithms while upholding ethical practices and ensuring unbiased decision-making.

AI in John Clements

Although John Clements has an AI system that can automatically rank candidates based on job parameters, we are barely scratching  the surface of what is possible. There remains tremendous untapped potential in the domain of Generative AI. By delving deeper into its functionalities and continuously exposing the system to more data, we can unlock significant improvements in performance and efficiency. We at JC should embrace a culture of exploration and continuous learning. This will allow us to capitalize on the vast possibilities offered by AI technologies.  By learning how to maximize the use of #Generative AI and continuously exposing the system to more data over time, we can significantly improve the system’s performance and efficiency. We should embrace a learning mindset and strive to conquer the use of this powerful technology in HR and beyond.

In conclusion, Dr. Sawhney’s workshop showcased AI as a promising enabler and catalyst for progress, rather than a source of apprehension. As Generative AI and other AI technologies advance, HR professionals have the opportunity to leverage them to enhance their recruitment processes and drive their organizations to greater heights. By fostering a culture of curiosity and investing in training, HR professionals can confidently embrace the potential of AI and shape a brighter, more efficient future for their organizations. As we delve further into the capabilities of #Generative AI, let us not be afraid to explore and embrace the potential it offers.
