Top Questions to Prepare for in a Job Interview

As a recruiter, I have an opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with job seekers and help them land their dream job. Interviewing has never been an easy task—and the job interview can be equally challenging for candidates. From my perspective, here are the top questions you should prepare for in a job interview:

“Tell me about yourself.”

This might sound so simple, but it sets the tone for the interview. You must be able to make an impactful impression on the interviewer.

“Why did you leave your previous job?”

When you are asked this question in a job interview, be honest and keep your answer short and simple. If you didn’t have a good experience with that company, don’t put them in a bad light; just keep it positive.

“Were there tasks assigned to you that fell out of your job scope?”

If there were, highlight initiatives, as well as the strategies you used to support the team or the project without bragging.

“What was the most difficult task assigned to you and how were you able to handle it?”

Always take your time to process every question that is asked in a job interview. Here, you need to make the interviewer visualize your thought process and prove that you have the skills they are looking for. You need to state the problem, your action plan, the execution, and the outcome.

“Do you have any questions for us?”

This is the last and probably the most important question in a job interview. Most candidates usually answer “none”, but do ask away! Don’t waste the chance to ask relevant questions that might give you great leverage to negotiate the terms of the job.

Be confident and stay on top of your game by anticipating questions in the job interview and preparing for them. You definitely have to expect behavioral questions and answer them by emphasizing your skills and capabilities through storytelling.
