A
View from the Top

“For every no you receive, you are nearer to a yes!”
These words reverberated through John Clements’ latest business
forum, which was held at Mandarin Hotel on April 14. The event,
titled “A View from the Top: Managing One’s Career,”
was attended by Human Resource managers from different companies
as well as John Clements’ personnel, and was a resounding
success.
Two highly esteemed executives were invited to
speak to and inspire other HR practitioners. The first speaker was
Vic P. Quisumbing, President and CEO of the Philippine AXA Life
Insurance Corporation. Mr. Quisumbing shared—along with various
anecdotes, quotes, and pieces of valuable advice—the formula
behind his success: the “ADD+” concept. ADD+, which
is an original concept of Mr. Quisumbing’s, stands for attitude,
drive, disposition, and Christ.
Frank R. Billano, President and GM of Interphil
Laboratories Inc. and concurrently the CEO of Interpharma Manufacturing
Division, was next to talk about his career. Mr. Billano’s
extensive experience with manufacturing companies throughout his
career proved to be a rich source of wisdom. He shared simple truths
to help both individuals and companies achieve success. He also
discussed key career and management decisions he had made which
proved to be vital to his own success in life.
The contrasting backgrounds of the speakers provided
a rich learning experience for the audience. During the open forum,
the crowd was very eager to ask questions. The speakers continued
to share their vast knowledge of companies, careers, and life itself—even
up to the cocktails and well into the evening.
Some of the advice given by the two speakers was
similar, some of it contrasting. This lends credence to the essence
behind the forum, which is that there is no single road to success.
While one situation may be similar to another, there is no constant
solution. Only one thing holds true in all circumstances: You cannot
do it alone. You need the perspective and view of others…in
this case, a view from the top.
