RCM Health Care Services Returns to Manila to Recruit More Health Care Workers
by Paul Catiang
RCM Health Care Services, a premier international recruiter of Health Care Professionals for all major hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics and schools in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, DC, held several job fairs in hotels all over the Philippines in late February and early March, 2007.
Their visit this year included a touring job fair, which visited several cities in the Philippines: Makati, Baguio, Angeles, Cebu, and Davao. They also held school lectures at the Cebu Doctor's College, the University of Cebu, Velez College, Emilio Aguinaldo College and in UP Manila.
During their stay in the Philippines, RCM Health Care Services Meeting met with Lawrence Mire, Immigrant Visa Chief and Joseph Tilgman, Non-Immigrant Visa Chief, both of the US Embassy in the Philippines. Lastly, all Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists from Cebu who were this year’s candidates were invited to dinner at the Cebu Marriott.
“We prefer getting Filipino health care workers because most, if not all of them have been considered to have good work ethics and a good sense of loyalty,” said Evan Messer in a previous interview. “We have also found that they have been trained in American health care standards and equipment, or are at least familiar with similar standards.” This ensures a shorter adjustment and training period, where the newly hired health care professionals get acquainted with the local equipment, practices and culture. Mr. Messer explained, “Adjustment isn’t as long, but it is as long as they need. We’ve learned to have them shadow more veteran Filipinos to speed up the adjustment process.”
The company also recruits from other countries, such as Russia, Poland, Jamaica, Nigeria, India and many more, but never as large a number as what they recruit from the Philippines. “The biggest thing is the work ethic and the loyalty,” explained Mike Saks. “Over 50 percent of our Filipino recruits have stayed with their employers for over 20 years. I wouldn’t invest anywhere else.”
In partnership with John Clements Consultants, RCM Health Care Services sponsored job fairs in Makati, Angeles City, Iloilo, Cebu, Davao and Baguio all throughout February.
