Jobs@D’Mall
2: More Jobs the Second Time Around
By
Paul Catiang
From May 29 to 31, 2006, Jobs@D’Mall 2 opened at the Glorietta
Activity Center, where the job-seeking public flocked to avail
of the many employment opportunities being offered there. A landmark
event in the history of job fairs, Jobs@D’Mall 2 received
approximately 15,000 résumés.
The
event was graced by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, as part
of her commitment to job creation, and other government luminaries
such as Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Patricia
Sto. Tomas, Secretary and Presidential Advisor on Job Creation
Arthur Yap, and spokesman Mike Defensor, among others.
The
president of the republic even took the time to make the rounds
of the job fair with Carol Dominguez, president and CEO of John
Clements. The Philippine president asked some of the job seekers
about the jobs they were looking for, and asked the potential
employers how many they wanted to hire. The answer was, invariably,
“As many as we can find.”
The
exhibitors at Jobs@D’Mall 2 included companies like Siemens
Inc., Ambergris Solutions, Accenture, Convergys, eTelecare Global
Solutions, Sykes Asia, IBM Business Services, Chevron Holdings,
and Citibank. EDI-Staffbuilders, a fully-owned international recruitment
subsidiary of John Clements, was there to receive the applications
of those looking for a job overseas.
Co-organized
by Studio 23 and ABS-CBN Regional Network Group, leading newspaper
the Manila Bulletin, top human resources firm John Clements Consultants,
and veteran trade fair organizer Island Exhibit Link, Jobs@D’Mall
2 was a much-awaited job fair since the outstanding success of
its predecessor, Jobs@D’Mall 1, a year and a half ago.
