John Clements Explores Opportunities in India
by Paul Catiang
From June 8 to 19, 2006, Carol Dominguez, President and CEO of John Clements, and Tully Moss, President of the Magellan Alliance, flew to India on a trip to explore the business opportunities a human resources firm may find in the country. Over the course of 11 days, they visited Mumbai, Bangalore , Hyderabad , Jaipur, Chennai, and New Delhi and its suburb, Gurgaon, and the companies that made their headquarters there.
Mr. Moss also shared their findings to sales and recruitment consultants at John Clements on June 19, 2006. Gathered in a room draped with scarves from Jaipur, the consultants listened to the President of the Magellan Alliance as he narrated his trip all over India with Ms. Dominguez.
They began in Mumbai and paid calls to Sutherland Global Services, AIG India, and NASSCOM. Next was Bangalore , where they visited Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, HSBC, Microsoft, MphasiS, and Progeon. Their trip to Chennai led to meetings with Office Tiger and the Sutherland Center for Training. Hyderabad , home to GE Consumer Finance Services and GENPACT, was next on the itinerary, followed by a visit to GENPACT's operations both in Jaipur and in Gurgaon in New Delhi.
Ms. Dominguez and Mr. Moss also paid a courtesy call to Her Excellency Laura del Rosario, Philippine Ambassador to India, and met with executives from job portal JobStreet.com. They also attended a conference called “Fighting the War for Talent,” one of the many conferences held in India in response to the ever-growing need for qualified people for the BPO industry.
“There is a lot to learn from the BPO giants in India , especially when it comes to opportunities in training,” says Ms. Dominguez, after reviewing the copious notes she'd taken over the course of the trip. “I can also see a lot of potential in recruitment, and given our experience in international recruitment, expanding our services to India will be a most welcome challenge.” |
