Cebu City—The Personnel Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) held its 6th Annual Regional Conference from August 3 to 4, 2006 at the newly opened Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. The two-day event was attended by over 200 delegates from all over the Philippines.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation portion, where several speakers gave talks on topics like the reallocation of talents for survival and competitiveness, aligning core competences to business initiatives, and several open forum sessions.
Grace Sorongon, Vice President and Managing Director of John Clements, centered her talk on targeting the right talent, where she proposed more ways than one to find the right fit. Certainly, technology will pay a major part. At the same time, the ability to use principles of marketing and supply chain management will give organizations the competitive advantage over those who downplay the use of these principles. Global trends will necessitate organizations to give value to human resources. Thus the recruitment and selection processes will become more complex as more tools, and more innovations will be put to good use. Ms. Sorongon, as an advocate of Targeted Selection, promotes the use of behavioral interviewing to spot the right talent.
Established in 1956, the PMAP is a professional, non-stock, non-profit organization comprised of more than 1,000 companies. The organization aims to help companies and institutions improve the human aspect of management and the development of human resources. As a support organization for human resources practitioners, the PMAP promotes the development of human resources as a profession and offers numerous career development opportunities and services.
