and Harvard Business School Publishing

by Ayu Gunantari

On Wednesday, July 25, 2007, PT. John Clements Consultants Indonesia hosted a Business Forum at the Esquire Room of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jakarta. Attended by top executives, including President Directors, General Managers and HR Executives from various industries, they gathered to hear insights and experiences from two John Clements personalities who have roughly around 40 years of experience between them in the matter of attrition in a company and how it impacts on the future of a business. Andi Mohammad Hatta, President Director and CEO of PT. John Clements Consultants Indonesia opened the forum with a short presentation touching on the non-traditional values of the younger generation in the workforce, some statistics on the continuing shortage of highly talented employees and how attrition impacts on the business of companies.

The forum’s highlight was the interactive presentation of a case study from Harvard Business School Publishing’s Case in Point – Retaining Talent conducted and facilitated by the guest speaker, Carol Dominguez, President and CEO of John Clements Consultants Inc. The lively and engaging presentation-dialogue centered on the negative consequences of not being able to retain talent, particularly on how it eventually impacts, socially and financially, the business of the company. Carol also delved into the possible reasons why good people leave organizations and on strategies on how to retain them.  And finally, Carol segued on John Clements partnership with Harvard Business School Publishing and how the latter’s training programs on Leadership and Management can be very effective tools in developing talent and retaining them.

Among the highly enthusiastic participants in the discussion were Gary Olivar, Associate of Andrew Tani and Company, Setya Rahadi, Country HR Manager of Hewlett Packard Indonesia, Jojo Morigomen, Risk Management Director of Lippo Bank, Dona Tamba, HR Manager of CIGNA Life Insurance, and James Dio, General Manager of Medipharma. The event concluded with a sharing session led by Andi Mohammad Hatta who talked about his personal experiences in handling attrition when he was HR Director of Bank Niaga.
