Leadership and Development Training
With the rapid growth of business comes the need for competent and responsible leaders. Not all leaders, however, are created equal, but there are certain baseline qualities that are desirable in people who are expected to lead others.
Leaders are expected to be adaptable, to be all things to all people, in order to influence their subordinates effectively. They should have an understanding and appreciation for the role of management, and have a keen sense of responsibility for themselves and the people they lead. Leaders are good communicators, and can understand and make themselves understood clearly—a crucial trait when one directs the actions of others and is responsible for them. Leaders also develop their people and motivate them to achieve.
The latest offering from John Clements, Leadership and Development Training, aims to instill these qualities in people in leadership positions: supervisors, executives, managers, and basically anyone who manages others. The training methodology includes group and class discussions, role playing, feedback assessment, games and experiential learning, and instructional videos.
The program itself has six modules. Change Management Leading Change , the initial module, deals with the forces of organizational change. Leaders are taught to recognize the impact of change on employees, customers and stakeholders, identify actions that they can take to enable the most healthy response to change, and plan for guiding people through change.
The second module, Management Roles & Responsibilities , focuses on understanding the roles of being a manager, and helps participants make the transition from being task focused to people-focused. The art of delegation is the center here, and is a skill good leaders know.
Accountability is the third module, and is self-explanatory: responsibility for oneself and others, and knowing the distinction between blame and responsibility are the cornerstones of this module.
Module four is called Communication to Influence , where leaders learn to get feedback through role playing and practice sessions. They are trained to develop skills in receptiveness and expressiveness.
Managing Performance places emphasis on understanding the performance managing cycle and recognizing the elements of performance management. This involves setting goals and expectations, and coaching and feedback to monitor how these goals are being achieved. Leaders are expected to develop their people, and this module aims to give them the tools to do that.
The final module, Selection & Hiring , involves understanding the selection and hiring philosophy, and in identifying the elements for hiring the best. Training in behavioral interviewing techniques is also included here.
John Clements recognizes the need for leaders to grow businesses, and the Leadership and Development Program is there to enable and empower the executives, managers and supervisors needed in the frontlines of today's expanding professional environment.
